People high in Openness tend to fall in love with ideas. Not just appreciate them - fall for them. A beautiful theory, an elegant explanation, a framework that ties everything together - these things produce something close to a dopamine hit for the high-Openness brain. The more intellectually satisfying an idea feels, the more likely you are to adopt it. Even when the evidence is thin.
This is how smart, curious people end up believing in things not because the evidence is strong, but because the idea is beautiful. The aesthetic appeal of an explanation gets confused with its accuracy. An elegant theory about human behavior feels true because it's elegant, not because it's been tested.
High-Openness people are also more likely to see patterns where none exist. The same pattern-recognition ability that makes you creative and insightful can misfire, connecting dots that shouldn't be connected. You see depth where there's randomness. The Confirmation Bias Supercharger

So What Actually Helps?

Other people. The single most effective debiasing tool is other humans who disagree with you and aren't afraid to say so. Not yes-men. Not people who share your worldview. People who see things differently and will push back. The biases that are invisible to you are often obvious to someone with a different perspective. Time. Snap decisions activate your biases most strongly. Sleeping on important decisions isn't laziness - it's strategy. Your initial emotional reaction to a decision fades with time, and the rational assessment gets clearer. The first story your brain tells you about a situation is almost always the most biased one.
Self-awareness as practice, not knowledge. There's a difference between knowing you have biases (everyone knows that) and building a genuine habit of questioning your own certainty. The people who make the best decisions aren't the ones who've memorized a list of cognitive biases. They're the ones who've developed an instinct for pausing when they feel very sure about something and asking, "What would I expect to see if I were wrong?"
